Welcome to my website!

This site was created to coincide with the reprinting of my book, The Human Nature of the Singing Voice - exploring a holistic basis for sound teaching and learning. Published by Dunedin Academic Press towards the end of 2006, this is the fruit of many years of contemplating the wonders of the human voice as well as practical work with hundreds of singers from around the world.

As a career teacher I have derived a great deal of enjoyment from my investigations and from honing my teaching skills, and I am happy now to be able to share my observations and philosophical conclusions with a wider audience.

Teachers and singers need a solid basis for developing their demanding individual work. Rather than a collection of unrelated or, as is often the case, conflicting ideas, we need a coherent vision in which all aspects of the singer's art and training make practical sense of each other. This is what my teaching and writing offers.
